Nordkette is, together with Patscherkofel, one of the favorite ski resorts of the residents of Innsbruck, because its proximity and its difficulty. It is a small ski resort for expert skiers, with lots of off-piste routes and not groomed areas to explore and enjoy powder. The ski resort could be divided into two parts, Haffelekar (2300m) where there are only freeride routes and Seegrube (1900), where groomed slopes predominate. In addition, the panoramic view of the Inn Valley and the city of Innsbruck is very beautiful. From the highest area, Haffelekar, we can also enjoy the views of the Karwendel Natural Park.

13.8 km distributed in 1 blue slope, 3 red, 1 black and 6 freeride routes. It is a small ski resort and although it has few pistes, they are very long with many meters of altitude difference.

In Haffelekar we find only freeride descents, very difficult and with a steepness higher than 70%. In Seegrube, there are two easier freeride routes, besides, there are three red slopes that are quite complicated and only a short blue piste.

The diversity in Nordkette is limited, the freeride routes and the red slopes predominate.

The two cable cars (one from Hungerburg to Seegrube and other from Seegrube to Haffelekar) are quite modern and large, although the waiting time is high. In Hafelekar due to the existence of a single cabin that carries many people, all the skiers accumulate in the descent. The chairs are in good condition but they are slow.

The price daily ticket is 33€, a little expensive considering its size. However, there are a half-day ticket (until 1pm or from 12pm) for € 23. In addition, there are discounts for senior, students, youth and children.

It is an accessible ski resort, only 15 min from Innsbruck. The parking is quite small, being the most comfortable option to go on the J bus from the center of Innsbruck, with a frequency of 10 min. It can also be reached by monorail from the city center.

The 5 freeride routes allow you to enjoy powder, there is also the possibility to explore areas around the ski routes in Haffelekar and the forest under Seegrube.

Nordkette doesn’t have the typical mountain landscape, since from its only hillside the view is mainly Innsbruck and other villages of the Inn Valley. This landscape, something unusual in a ski resort, is special and curious. In addition, from Haffelekar we can enjoy the views of the Karwendel Natural Park.

In addition to skiing, other leisure plans are offered in Seegrube, such as DJ sessions in the igloo-bar. The Seegrube bar has a nice terrace, normally full of tourists.

The best:

  • Being able to get to a ski resort by free city bus is awesome.

  • We love that Nordkette is so committed to freeriding, there are many descents and they are very well indicated. In addition, the area has a world of possibilities for everyone to make their own route. Also the avalanche department always try to keep the area as safe as possible.

  • The black track "Kasermandl Tal" is very funny.
